Giclee (pronounced zhee-CLAY) reproductions have gained wide acceptance in the fine art market. Giclee is a high level of printmaking technology which provides individually produced, high-resolution, high-fidelity reproductions done on a special large format printer. Digital images are captured with extremely high resolution scans. They are printed with archival inks onto various high quality substrates such as canvas, fine art watercolour papers, and photo-base papers. The colour range, or “colour gamut”, colour accuracy, and detail is far greater than that of traditional lithography. The colours last longer and are virtually continuous tone compared to the screen process used in lithography.
